Welcome to Silvestor

Silvestor is a new learning platform built for the forestry and arboriculture sector

Born from a shared ambition to bring training, skills, and career resources together in one accessible place, Silvestor is designed to become the go-to hub for anyone looking to enter, grow or upskill their career in the sector.

The project originated with funding from the Trees Call to Action Fund to host the UK Forestry Standard (UKFS) e-learning course. The project quickly grew beyond its initial scope, and with support from the Forestry Commission, Silvestor is now evolving into a wider pilot platform, offering free resources, gathering feedback, and building a model that can grow with the needs of the sector.

The challenge is clear: forestry education currently has no central digital home. Information is widely spread, making it harder to discover opportunities, explore careers, or access learning. Silvestor aims to change that.

We are building this platform collaboratively, shaped by input from across the sector. While the Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF) leads on delivery, Silvestor is not an ICF project. It is a sector-wide initiative, guided by a Steering Group that includes training providers, organisations, and sector experts. Together, we are committed to making Silvestor useful, inclusive and impactful.

This pilot phase is a chance to test, learn and refine. We are inviting the sector to help shape what Silvestor becomes through feedback, content contributions and ideas. Ultimately, Silvestor is for everyone working in, or aspiring to join, the forestry and arboriculture community.
