The data are derived from the methodology described by Lost Rainforests of Britian (Lost-RainforestsMapping-Methodology.pdf (lostrainforestsofbritain.org)) which is based on the previous work of Dr Christopher Ellis.
Using the Met Office time series data, for mean rainfall and mean temperatures between 1981-2010 at 1km resolution, the methodology and Amann’s index of hygrothermy (as described by Ellis) was applied to create a composite data layer covering the British Isles with each 1km square then assigned an index value. The data were then filtered to extract only those squares where the index value was greater than 100, indicating an oceanic climate.
