    Woodland Knowledge Wales

    A thriving forest based economy is an essential cornerstone of a sustainable society. The forestry sector provides a valuable low carbon resource for industry and rewarding employment for many thousands of people.

    Well managed woodlands contribute to climate change mitigation, flood prevention, soil health, clean air, biodiversity and enable many forms of recreation beneficial for our health and well-being.

    Our Vision

    Our vision is the transformation of Wales into a high-value forest nation.

    Wales has the potential for substantial expansion of forestry and its wood using industries. Well-conceived forestry provides amenity, mitigates climate change, is good for biodiversity and soil health and helps clean air and water. Wales has land suited for afforestation and a climate suited to growing the trees that industry needs.

    What we do

    We organise our work into three categories:

    Knowledge Creation & Exchange e.g. research, technical support, communities of practice, events and communication
    Advocacy e.g. national and local policy development, government consultations and participation in working groups
    Strategic Interventions e.g. collaborative innovation projects, feasibility studies, application of research findings in exemplar housing and manufacturing projects
