About This Course
Welcome to our free Woodland Management Planning course. This course has been developed to support woodland owners to create woodland management plans in England, including:
- Why we create woodland management plans
- How to develop objectives for the woodland
- Surveying needs
- Creating appropriate maps
- Planning operations
- The management plan creation and submission process
The formal process outlined in this course is relevant for woodlands, and woodland creation, in England. However, the creation of a woodland management plan will be of interest to anyone in the UK, including those not currently considering submitting a formal management plan, but who wish to take the next steps towards managing their woodland sustainably.
Outcomes
By the end of the course you should know:
- How the woodland management plan process works and what you need to do to complete one
- How and why the woodland management plan supports woodland owners to meet the standards of sustainable woodland management
- What different support mechanisms are available during the process
- How to create a woodland management plan and prepare it for submission How to use online tools to aid management planning and submission.
Requirements
This resource is relevant to owners and managers of woodlands of all types, large and small, new and long-standing, and forestry practitioners and students of forestry and allied sectors. In short, anyone with an interest in woodland management in the UK. The resources have been developed to provide next-steps information and supplement existing learning resources and guidance materials.
Course Staff
Carrie Hedges
Carrie is a forestry consultant specialising in providing land owner advice, developing research, and authoring training materials in woodland creation and management. She is also a PhD Researcher looking at the habitat preferences and influence of climate on montane scrub trees in the UK.
