Forestry Works Manager: Routes to Achieving the Forestry Works Manager Level 4 Qualification

    Blocks

Routes to Achieving the Forestry Works Manager Level 4 Qualification

There are two routes to achieving the Forestry Works Manager (FWM) level 4 qualification:

    1. The apprenticeship is for people with employer support who are working in forestry and wish to develop their career to become recognised as a forestry works manager. This comes with training and assessment.
    2. Experienced Worker Assessment route is for people who are already experienced FWMs and would like to achieve a qualification that recognises their skills and experience. You need to be at least 21 years old and have at least 5 years demonstrable experience of working in a Forestry Works Manager role.

The assessment for the qualification is the same for routes 1 and 2. Open Awards are the awarding organisation who offer the assessment.

If you do not need the full apprenticeship, but need to top up your skills in some areas, training will be available.

This document helps you to gauge if you're ready for Experienced Worker Assessment, or you need some additional learning or experience. There are training providers that can help with this, or you may have in-house training available.

    Funding Information

If you are in England the apprenticeship will attract normal Government skills funding and your training provider will explain this to you. If you are elsewhere in the UK, you can undertake the apprenticeship, but your employer will need to pay for it. (The cost is £980 - NO VAT) The Experienced Worker Assessment costs will currently not attract normal Department for Education funding and will need to be paid by your employer or yourself, although there may be other funding available in your UK region.
